Premiere: May 15, 1936, Metropolitan Opera, New York. Danced by American Ballet Ensemble. Conductor: Wilfred Pelletier. (DANCE OF THE COMEDIANS first performed as a concert work on a Metropolitan Opera Gala Program, February 9, 1936.)

Cast: ACT I POLKA: Ruthanna Boris, William Dollar, corps de ballet. ACT II WALTZ: Helen Leitch, corps de ballet. ACT III DANCE OF THE COMEDIANS (Gala Program, February 9): Anatole Vilzak, Dollar, Rabana Hasburgh, Gisella Caccialanza, Leitch, Kyra Blank, Leda Anchutina, corps de ballet.

Note: DANCE OF THE COMEDIANS was given separately as part of a Metropolitan Opera Gala Program (principally of operatic arias) which also included a performance of Serenade [141].

Revisions: 1937, Metropolitan Opera: WALTZ replaced by FURIANTE.
